Tips for a Meaningful
Parents as Teachers Virtual Zoom/WebEx
Professional Learning Community Experience
The COVID-19 pandemic has certainly changed the way that PAT professional development is being offered. We are all learning new ways to communicate and learn as a group. As you participate in one of the Parents as Teachers Virtual Zoom/WebEx Virtual Professional Learning Communities (VPLC), think of it as a face-to-face PLC and conduct yourself as you would if you were all present in the same room.
Here are some useful tips to make your virtual learning experience the most beneficial to you:
*If you haven’t received an invite to the Zoom/WebEx meeting at least three days prior to the session, please contact Diane Addison, email@example.com or Patrick Harrison, firstname.lastname@example.org to verify your registration.
* Arrive to the session at least 10 minutes before the start time
*Have your video on unless you are experiencing connection issues so that the monitor can view your attendance
*Mute your microphone when not talking
*Find a quiet space without interruptions/background noise
*Have a plain background—avoid lots of ongoing movement or bright windows
* Adjust your camera to be at around eye level if possible-especially take note of the angle of your laptop screen if using the built-in camera
*Try to avoid talking over/at the same time as other participants
*Be aware you are on camera and try to avoid doing other tasks, checking emails, looking at your phone, talking with others, etc.
*Be prepared to listen to the facilitator or monitor as directives are given for completing an evaluation to receive an attendance certificate
