PARENTS AS TEACHERS COORDINATOR JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: To successfully oversee and coordinate the Parents as Teachers program and effectively lead parent educators toward reaching the following program goals:
- Increase parent knowledge of early childhood development and improve parenting practices
- Provide early detection of developmental delays and health issues
- Prevent child abuse and neglect
- Increase children's school readiness and school success
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or related field (Master's degree or higher preferred)
- Strong ability in working with young children and their parents
- Three years successful experience as an educator
- Proven leadership experience and/or Administration degree preferred.
- Completed or willing to complete approved training in parent education.
REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools
SUPERVISES: Parent educators and staff
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director should fulfill the requirements for the Parent Educator job description and the following:
- Interviews, supervises and evaluates Parents as Teachers faculty and staff
- Trains new parent educators
- Develops in-service training for parent educators and screening personnel
- Conducts regularly scheduled Parents as Teachers staff meetings
- Conducts regularly scheduled individual reflective supervision sessions with parent educators
- Plans, schedules, coordinates and participates in the community screening for 3 months-5 year olds
- Coordinates, monitors and evaluates personal family visits, group connections, playgroups, record keeping and recruitment efforts of other parent educators
- Actively recruits families to participate in the program
- Supervises and/or prepares information for periodic newsletters, web sites and school district/PAT social media
- Develops and monitors the budget in conjunction with the Superintendent and Business Manager
- Requisition and/or purchasing and distributing supplies needed for PAT program
- Maintains contact with county and community social service agencies, health care personnel and other organizations in contact with families of young children
- Reviews and evaluates results of annual parent surveys and other evaluative measures
- Maintains and monitors parent educator caseloads and records that pertain to screening, enrollment and participation in Parents as Teachers program
- Prepares and completes the Parents as Teachers application, final report, program evaluation and any other district or state forms/reports
- Prepares and completes the yearly Affiliate Performance Report required by the PAT National Office
- Serves as a resource for parent educators and others concerning early childhood issues
- Serves as chairperson of the Parents as Teachers Advisory Committee and participates on other district, community and/or state committees
- Serves as a liaison to community agencies and is available to speak to community groups about the Parents as Teachers program
